Common-room booking
Common-room booking is the system residents use to reserve a study room, the laundry, the gym or a court in time slots. It sets the opening hours, the capacity, how far ahead a slot can be booked and how many times a week, so the space is shared without arguments.

How it is used in a residence
Almost every residence starts with a sheet on the door of the room. It works until two people write in the same slot, someone signs up for the whole week or the sheet disappears. The rules that solve this are few, and it is worth writing them down before there is a dispute, not after:
| Rule | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Slots per day | So nobody books outside the room's opening hours |
| Capacity and slot length | So no more people get in than fit, and nobody stays longer than their turn |
| Days in advance | So nobody hoards the whole month |
| Weekly limit per person | So the space is shared among everyone |
The other tricky point is the double booking: if two people ask for the last slot at the same time, only one can have it, and the other has to find out there and then, not when they get to the room. The rules of use are usually written into the residence's own internal regulations, consistent with whatever community-life rules apply to it, and whoever books should be someone who lives there. How Bedel handles it: space booking.
