Colegio mayor adscrito
A colegio mayor adscrito is an affiliated colegio mayor: promoted by a public or private non-profit entity other than the university and linked to it by affiliation, through an agreement. The other kind is the university's own, founded directly by it. Both are colegios mayores with all that this entails.

What sets it apart
The LOSU separates the two kinds in paragraph 3 of its seventh additional provision: colegios mayores (Spanish halls of residence with a formative programme) founded directly by the university, whose rules of creation and operation each university sets in its statutes, and affiliated ones, which come in through the affiliation procedure those statutes lay down. The Statute of the University Student uses the names heard in the sector: universities may have colegios mayores "of their own or affiliated by agreement with public or private entities" (art. 66.1). And Decree 2780/1973 holds back the recognition of a college promoted by another entity until it signs that agreement with the university (art. 6.6). Once affiliated, it enjoys the tax benefits or exemptions of the university it is integrated into (paragraph 3).
| Own | Affiliated | |
|---|---|---|
| Who promotes it | The university | Another entity, public or private, non-profit |
| Link | Direct foundation | Affiliation by agreement |
| Governed by | The university's statutes: creation, closure and operation | The affiliation procedure in those statutes, and the agreement |
| Community-life rules | Those of its university | Those of the university it affiliates to |
Worth knowing
The agreement may have an expiry date. Agreements between private single-sex colegios mayores and public universities that were in force when the LOSU came into force may run until they expire, but may not be renewed (paragraph 4): for those colleges, the date that matters is the agreement's. Nor should it be confused with the affiliated colegial, who is a person taking part in college life without living there. Through affiliation the university's normas de convivencia, adopted under Ley 3/2022, reach the college; how to fit the house rules to them is in the guide on community-life rules.
