WhatsApp Community
A WhatsApp Community brings several groups together in one space, with an announcement group in which only the admins write. It is used to organise a large number of people into subgroups, such as floors, buildings or years, and to reach them all with a single notice.

How it is used in a residence
It came to WhatsApp in 2022, with the idea of letting several group chats live in a shared space with unified notifications. In a residence it fits the shape of the house: one group per floor, another per building, another for first-years, and above them all the management's announcement group. A notice to the whole house only needs to be written in the announcement group; for each floor's own business, each group is still a group.
On privacy it sits halfway between a group and a WhatsApp Channel. Within the announcement group each member's number is less exposed, but the admins can still see it, and in the groups that sit inside the community it is on show to their members again. If the residence creates and runs it, it is the residence that processes those numbers, with the GDPR obligations that brings.
Worth knowing
What people take for granted: that with a community the residence now has a service channel. The announcement group is one-way and the ones below it are ordinary groups: the broken blind posted in the second-floor group still has no owner and no deadline, just as before.
