Tuesday, 16:08. The packing machine on line 2 stops with an error on the screen. Today, the operator leaves their station to track down the supervisor, who jots it on a scrap of paper. With Bedel they write "the packing machine on line 2 has stopped", attach a photo of the screen, and the alert reaches the maintenance shift with buttons. If nobody picks it up in time, it goes up to the plant manager.

How far it goes. Bedel handles fault reports for a warehouse or a plant, from the moment someone on the list writes until maintenance closes it. It isn't a CMMS and it doesn't connect to the machines: a person opens the report. Nor is it a safety or emergency system: it doesn't stop the line or make the machine safe, and it doesn't replace the emergency stop button, the safety signage or the site's emergency plan.

On the shop floor, the fault is spotted by the operator, who is the person least able to leave their station to report it.

• The operator mentions it in passing and the supervisor notes it on a sheet that reaches the office at the end of the shift.
• Whatever was left half-done gets lost at handover. When management asks how long the line was down, the answer is a guess.

The things that cost most when they go down, and that are often repaired by someone from outside.

• The stopped line or machine: the report comes from the station, not the office, and goes to the maintenance shift with the shortest deadline.
• Forklifts and overhead cranes: anything that touches safety goes to whoever can take them out of use.
• Compressors, electrical panels and compressed air: whatever affects the whole building usually goes to the outside contractor.
• Lighting, changing rooms and wet floors: the small things that pile up. One-off jobs go to the cleaning role.

Every report reaches a named phone, according to the roles and shift slots you set up in the structure: early, late and night maintenance.

• While the deadline runs there are reminders. When it expires, the report goes up once to the plant manager; if it's urgent, it rings again every day until it's closed.
• Nights and weekends: whatever you mark as urgent rings for whoever you leave on call; the blown fluorescent tube waits for the shift.
• Every night with tickets, the day's summary reaches the plant's inbox.

What follows comes from reading the articles in Spain's official gazette (BOE). What applies to your plant is for your health and safety service to confirm, and outside Spain it depends on the country. No rule obliges you to use WhatsApp or Bedel.

• In Spain, workers must immediately tell their direct superior about any situation that, on reasonable grounds, poses a risk (Law 31/1995, art. 29.2.4). A report with its time leaves a record of when it was made.
• Under the same Spanish law, faced with a serious and imminent risk, the employer informs staff and gives instructions to stop work (art. 21.1), and the worker may stop it (art. 21.2). That call belongs to whoever is at the station, not to Bedel.
• Spain's Royal Decree 1215/1997 requires work equipment to be maintained following the manufacturer's instructions (art. 3.5), the results of its checks to be documented (art. 4.4) and equipment to be taken out of use if a fault compromises safety (annex II, section 1, point 4).
• Spain's Royal Decree 486/1997 requires workplaces to be maintained periodically and anything affecting safety to be put right quickly (art. 5 and annex II, section 4).

Nothing to install: one session with the plant manager and the head of maintenance.

• Who handles what: maintenance by shift, the supplier for each machine, night on-call cover and who sits above them.
• The categories in your own words ("line 2", "dock 3", "compressor"), their deadline and which ones are urgent.
• The first fault, opened by an operator from their station.

• It isn't a safety or emergency system: it doesn't stop the line or replace the emergency stop button, the signage or the emergency plan.
• It isn't a CMMS: no spare parts, stock or work orders, and no connection to machines, sensors or other software.
• Hauliers and suppliers who turn up at the gate don't write to Bedel: the people on the list do the reporting.
• It doesn't carry out or log the inspections that regulations demand for each piece of equipment.
• Each account is one plant: if you run more than one, you see each separately.
